Rodney greene
Biography
Let me introduce you to Smooth Jazz Artist, Music Producer and Multi-instrumentalist the one and only Mr. Rodney Greene. Although Rodney has been around for awhile, he is finally coming into his own and getting some well deserved recognition in the music industry. Rodney has produced and released three smooth jazz studio album projects to date, “Nice n Slow” (2003), “Meditation of My Heart” (2011) and “Real Close” (2024). Rodney’s last album release “Real Close” achieved success with three songs which charted on various smooth jazz charts including the title track “Real Close” which featured Billboard Smooth Jazz saxophonist Jackiem Joyner, the heavy beat driven “No Stopping”, and Rodney’s uniquely tasteful jazzy remake of Kool & The Gang’s “Summer Madness”.
Rodney is currently working on his fourth studio album titled “Evolution” which is scheduled for release August 2026. Rodney has a single scheduled for release off the Evolution album titled “Wind It Up” which features Billboard's Smooth Jazz chart topping guitarist Nils who is a musical icon in his own right. “Wind It Up” is a sassy uptempo rhythmic groove featuring some great guitar and sax call and response lead riffs with Rodney’s smooth bass lines undergirding the track.
Early Beginnings
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California Rodney’s first introduction to music came at the early age of 9 years old while learning to play the violin. He says “playing music had always been of interest to me even at a young age”. Rodney was also heavily influenced by his father the late Ray Greene who was also a vocalist and recording artist.“As a teenager, I began hanging out with other musicians and had a friend who was a bass player. I’d go to his band rehearsals and gigs and I began to love the deep percussive driving tone of that instrument. Soon after, I saved my money and bought my first bass guitar and learned how to play well enough play with several local bands”.As time went on, Rodney joined several rock, Latin, and R&B cover bands as a bass player and fill-in keyboardist playing the local club scene. "Playing other people’s music was great and all but I wanted to express my own artistic creativity and began writing and recording my own music". As a result, Rodney decided to start his own independent record label and production company GreeneStreet Records.
Musical Influences
“As child of the ‘Old School’ music era, I grew up listening to a variety of R&B artists including EWF Earth, Wind, & Fire”, Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, Maze, Anita Baker, and so many others. As the years progressed, I really began to gravitate to more contemporary smooth jazz music and influenced by artists such as Brian Culbertson, Boney James, Najee, the late Wayman Tisdale, Norman Brown, Peter White, and Jackiem Joyner. Jackiem was gracious enough to allow me to feature him on the title track “Real Close” which actually helped me to gain recognition. In Addition to Jackiem Joyner and Nils Jiptner, I look forward to collaborating with other artists in the future as opportunities arise.
